  1. I loved your writings on “Dear Old Picher’. I was born in Joplin as Mom was visiting her sister when she went into labor with me. I returned to Picher two weeks later,lived there pretty much while growing up. I am now 78 years old,married almost 60 years to Kenneth,the love of my life!! We have 3 children,7 grandkids and 13 greatgrandkids now. We have been “home” several times and love that old town with all my heart. I still keep in touch with old friends from there and lots have died over the years. I went Picher High School,worked at several cafes in town,went to the movies at the 3 shows that were in Picher thru the years. I am very moved at your writings at such a young age,such wisdom!! I’d love to hear from you as time goes by? If you give me your phone number,I’ll call you? Stay sweet and keep love! Peace! Snookie

  2. Hi, Snookie!!

  4. Mr. Hembree;

    Sometimes I feel rather helpless in relation to what is happening in Tar Creek, but I take heart in knowing there is at least a little power in my words. As someone who started out in Picher as little more than a compassionate outsider, I must say that it’s people like you who have made me feel very much a part of the community. That feeling is precious to me, and so I want to thank you for reading my works as well as posting them on your website. I greatly admire what you have done for the victims of the May 10th storms, as well as the passion you continue to display for what most call a lost cause. Make no mistake; you are a hero. I’d be proud to call you a friend.

    I will most certainly place a link to your site on my homepage as soon as possible. Again, I appreciate your kindess. Best wishes for the new year and God bless you.
