Well, I had an amazing night tonight (actually, it’s midnight now, but oh well). We had a little party at my aunt’s, because I turn fifteen on the 8th. I’m told it’s a pretty big accomplishment, even though I’m not sure I buy it…
I didn’t even want a party, for various reasons. One, I was down in the mouth and not being a very good sport about missing out on seeing my favorite songwriter perform in Nashville. I was kind of being a brat about it, so I’m glad my mom still went through all the trouble that she did to make everything happen for me tonight. Though I had been deadset against it, yesterday she managed to talk me into letting her invite a few family members over for a some cake and ice cream. Now I can honestly say that I’m really glad she did– I guess Mother really does know best.
It was mostly a family affair, but I did invite a couple of my closest friends from the public school I attended last year. We basically spent the whole day together after class let out, and I laughed until my jaws ached. We’ve all three known each other for years, so nothing is really sacred or secret between us. Dakota– a boy who is sometimes so much like me that we get mistaken for siblings– and Moriah, my best friend since the eighth grade. It’s a kind of complicated story, but this is the last year we’ll be able to see each other on a regular basis, and sometimes I just don’t know how I’m going to let them go after all this time. Looking back, I know these memories will mean twice as much.
So, the bottom line? Tonight turned out to be great, and I think I’m some kind of lucky girl. A big portion of my family came over and that always makes me really happy. Plus, anytime I can get within hearing distance of one of my Uncle Bob’s stories, I’m doing pretty good! Oh, and not to be obvious or anything, but a little CD called Unstoppable was released today. If you appreciate Rascal Flatts– or great music period– you should go get a copy.
Admittedly, I had some trouble getting mine. My mom and I went to Wal-Mart this morning, ready to make our purchase and dash out to the Dodge as quickly as possible to listen– but it’s never that easy, is it? Turns out our little Podunk of a Wally-World doesn’t even stock new music till Thursday. How insane is that? Long story short, Mom ended up driving to the next nearest store that actually understood the meaning of “comes out on April 7th” to get our copy. It’s a solid production from end to end (I’m not biased at all), but the song that really catches my eye is called “Once”. It was co-written by the best songwriter in the world Jeffrey Steele, and that’s where the title of this post comes from. “So I wait by the phone/in the dark/ drunk on hope…” Download it off iTunes. You won’t be disappointed.
Below are some pictures from the party. Credit goes to Dakota for taking all the ones I’m in– you’ve got the touch, my friend.

My cousin Ben and I. He had his sweet sixteen not long ago. You wanna see a couple partners in crime? You’re looking at them. We used to drive our poor Aunt MaryBo nuts when we were little– it’s a miracle she still loves us so much! I’m telling you, we were rotten. We even ran away from home once… but that’s a different story.
From left; my cousin Janie, Uncle Bob, and Uncle Dave. No doubt laughing at a Bob story…

Dakota tells me my horns are showing in this picture. Horns? What horns? I’m innocent as they come. On the other hand, Ben looks like he might have something up his sleeve…

They gave me a kitchen knife to open my gifts with… redneck, much?

Dakota and Moriah. I love these faces.

Then we played pool and went home. The end.
