I am posting this post because I took a really long nap today. Because my fingers hurt from playing guitar. Because I sat down and watched a movie with my family even though I’d already seen it. Because I went to Wal-Mart and saw like, five random people I knew. Because right now I can hear the rain on our tin roof (it’s a green tin roof, and green tin roofs are on my list of happiness things). Because today was Saturday. Because I stumbled across a picture I took back in March of a jonquil in a Mason jar, and I just had to share it.

 

So I’m posting this post, because today was just another day.

 

Sunday Stills – Architecture

I have been very naughty in neglecting to post a feature for the Sunday Stills Challenge these past few weeks, but at least I have an excuse (see last entry).

 

The challenge this week is architecture, and on that note I would like to introduce to you the old Randolph County courthouse. It is located in Pocahontas– the county seat and my hometown– and stands in the center of a genuine, last-of-its-kind town square. The new courthouse is not far away, but it is much less charming than the original structure. When the new one was built there was talk of tearing the old one down, but the citizens of Pocahontas got so upset over the idea that they organized both petitions and protests to preserve it. Us Arkies are typically a quiet bunch, so when you get us to riot over something you know you’ve hit a nerve. As you might have guessed, the old courthouse got to stay– I just can’t imagine downtown Pokie without it. Enjoy!

 

 

 

 

 

One Blue Sky

There is a saying here in Arkansas that if you don’t like the weather now, stick around for a day or two and it will change. Truer words never spoken, as we have gone from single-digit temperatures to the low sixties in just a week and a half. Some might call it global warming, but us Arkies aren’t fooled. We know that winters here in the natural state are fickle to say the least, and just because we’re in short sleeves today doesn’t mean we can’t have two feet of snow on the ground by the time tomorrow rolls around. So these warm December days? We aren’t taking them for granted.

Being an amateur photographer and all, it didn’t take me long to realize that one always seem to see the best shots when the camera is at home sitting on the kitchen counter, which must fall into the category of all those other unwritten and inconvient rules– like it always rains after you wash your car and dropped toast has to land butter-side down. The solution? Take the camera with you! Everywhere. 

Today I got to take pictures of a little town called Imboden, which is about eight miles from my house. It has inspired me to do a series on some of the rural communities in the area, because I think small towns are beautiful and essential. Next is Pocahontas, and after that maybe Black Rock, but right now… Imboden; river and railroad town, home of the Greyhounds.
